Every hunter tries to put the odds in their favor when trying to bag that elusive whitetail buck. There are all sorts of deer attractants on the market. Some work, some don’t, so I wanted to come up with something simple that would lure in big trophy bucks.
All hunters know that a deer’s nose is his best defense. A whitetail’s sense of smell is simply awesome. So I set to work trying to find something that would entice deer without a lot of muss and fuss.

And I found it. It’s so simple that I can’t believe I didn’t discover it before. It all started one day last season when I was sitting in my tree stand. I had brought a peanut butter sandwich to munch on. I didn’t finish all of the sandwich so I just tossed it a few yards away from the stand. About 30 minutes later, a large doe eased into sight. She was nervous, but she caught wind of the sandwich. She began to slowly come toward it. A few minutes later a big 8-point buck appeared. He made a beeline for the sandwich and started nosing it. Then he started to lick it. I knew I had found something good.
Since that day I’ve tried several mixtures to see what worked best as a deer attractant. I finally decided that peanut butter, with a little molasses and a bit of salt mixed in was the trick. I use the cheapest, smelliest peanut butter I can find. Brand names don’t matter to the deer. I just mix the stuff up in a plastic, resealable container and take it with me to the woods. I use a cheap putty knife I bought for a buck at the hardware store to smear the mixture on low branches around my stand. You won’t believe the deer that I’ve had come into close range.
Give this attractant a try. It’s easy to make, inexpensive and most of all…it works.
